The Chair was instrumental in the establishment of the National Egyptian Ecotechnie Network (NEEN), which includes several national universities, the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the Institute of Energy.
The NEEN promotes cooperation among national bodies and regional centers working in the field of environmental education and training. In order to improve environmental education and awareness in Egyptian universities, the Ecotechnie Chair, in collaboration with NEEN and supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, the British Council in Cairo and the UNESCO Cairo Office, has helped set up a General Introductory Course on the Environment, which will be taught to all Egyptian University students during their first year of studies.
The Chair promotes environmental education by improving the Department of Environmental Science syllabi and providing facilities for post-graduate students in the field of applied research and environmental protection. The Chair organizes Ecotechnie Seminars for University student and the general public in an effort to improve environmental awareness and conduct the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) training program aimed at decision-makers in the government and the private sector.
In collaboration with national and international institutions, the Chair carries out field projects in the Wadi Allaqui Biosphere Reserve, focusing on sustainable management and the development of the reserve, indigenous knowledge, the research and the monitoring of natural resources. The Chair is a founding member and the Focal Point of the Arab Region Ecotechnie Network - AREN.
