Chile pays tribute to Captain Cousteau
15 November 2010
During this centennial year celebrating Captain Cousteau, and in honor of his life’s work, the government of Chile, in collaboration with the Alkance Communicaciones agency and publisher Tiempo presente, has invited Pierre-Yves Cousteau and the Cousteau team to visit the country from November 15 to November 18.
A full schedule of events is planned. First, Pierre-Yves Cousteau will lead a seminar, with Minister of the Environment María Ignacia Benítez attending, that brings together the top Chilean business people involved in sustainable development.
Next, Cousteau representatives will meet with ecology students from Andrés Bello University.
Pierre-Yves Cousteau and Henri Garcia, a Cousteau diver who has been living on Easter Island since 1976, will carry out a symbolic dive at Caleta Quintay, on Chile’s long Pacific coast.
The tribute will culminate with Pierre-Yves Cousteau meeting Chilean President Sebastián Piñera at the Palace of La Moneda in Santiago. The President will award Captain Cousteau the title Forjador Ambiental de Chile for his environmental achievements.
