Creation of an Institute for water management in Brazil: the HydroEX UNESCO Institute
The project, which was initiated by the State of Minas Gerais, is run in partnership with The Institute for Water Education in Delft, Hollande and various national institutions.
The project aims to develop international activities especially with the countries speaking Portuguese. It also includes an important proposal to implant a Minas Gerais Environmental Education Network consisting of the installation of 30 centers distributed throughout the existing Hydrographic basins in the state.
The Cousteau Society is proud to be associated to this initiative and is currently designing education and sustainable management programs in partnership with this new important center of expertise on water management issues.
Mme Francine Cousteau, President of The Cousteau Society, Hon. Deputy Narcio Rodrigues, First Vice-Chairman of the House of Representative, State Secretary Alberto Portugal, and various representative of Minas Gerais institutions and stakeholders were present at the creation ceremony chaired by Mr Marcio Barboza, Deputy Director General of Unesco, was held on the 29 October 2009.
